Elder and Deacon Search

Elders are spiritual leaders who govern church affairs. Deacons serve practical church family needs. We encourage you to pray about serving as Elder or Deacon or observe/approach others about serving. If you are interested, talk to the Pastor any time.  We renew the search every fall, and announce candidates at our January congregation meeting, with a vote of affirmation taken at our Annual Congregational Meeting each March.

The Ministry of Elders

The church's Elders are co-laborers with the Pastor in the Biblical ministry of the pastor / elder / overseer.  This includes teaching, shepherding and discipling God's people, guarding against false doctrine, and overseeing the church's ministry.  The Elder Board is the church's governing board.

Elders are chosen by the congregation from among the male members who best meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:1-9 and 1 Peter 5:1-3.  They must be faithful participants in church life, proven in ministry, committed to our mission and values, and must demonstrate a solid grasp of the Biblical basis of our doctrine and ministry.

Our current Elders:

  • Ross Anderson
  • Greg Hustad
  • Bill Moran
  • Chuck Veillon
  • Pete Newland (Emeritus)
  • Brent Hinsley

The Ministry of Deacons

Deacons relieve the Elders and staff of many of the church's practical aspects.  It is their primary duty to see that acts of service, hospitality, charity and benevolence are carried out, by identifying and equipping people with appropriate gifts to serve these needs.

Deacons are chosen from among the male and female members of the church who best meet the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 (compare Acts 6:3).  They must be proven in servanthood ministry by faithful participation in the life of the church.

Our current Deacons:

  • Alice Gray
  • Connie Cummings
  • Sandy Vaughan

Selecting Elders and Deacons

Candidates for these servant positions are chosen each year at our Annual Congregational Meeting in March.  The process begins each fall, when we encourage individuals to pray about serving, and we encourage members of the congregation to approach people they feel are qualified, to invite them to serve.

Those who wish to be considered as candidates must notify the Pastor by Christmas, to discuss the qualifications and duties of service.  The Elder Board then reviews potential candidates and presents a final list to the congregation by mid-January.

The congregation is expected to review these candidates prayerfully, according to the Biblical standards.  Those candidates affirmed at the Annual Meeting, by at least a 2/3 majority, begin their term of service on April 1.  There is no set number of how many Elders or Deacons may be elected.
